Moving on.
So now that my job search is over I've decided to actually do something with this blog. I may be changing around everything anyway so what does it matter. Ive been really enjoying my new job and I feel like its closer to what I want to be doing. That being said, I have no idea what I actually want to be doing.
I miss being able to take the time to really learn something. I suppose I just need to get to a point where I am actually doing something complicated. There are two bits Ive been knocking around for some time now. The first is building a website. "But Bill, If you don't know how to do that, then what am I looking at right now?" You are looking at a pregen blogger website that I have almost no control over at all. I want to build one from the ground up. The thing I have to decide is where I want me ground to be. Do I want to put it on my own hardware and roll everything from linux and apache to the actual html? Do I want to incorporate AWS into my learning process. Do I want to grab something like wordpress? I don't have the answers yet so it will be a big question mark for a while.
The other thing Ive been looking into is creating an android app that incorporates some sort of public/private key encryption. Ever since I got my first server using keys to access I've really wanted to make something that used it. I want to be able to make it work for myself. I was thinking about making a garage door opener as the base application and I was able to get a very simple node.js application working to do the hardware bit. I've also gotten an android course to learn how to make simple android apps (which I havn't touched in 6mo), but the cyrpto I have no idea how to even start implementing.
I think the next step is seeing what it would take to build an app on AWS. Time to see what the free tier from Amazon will get me.
